Every year, August 8 — 8/8 — is known in many spiritual communities as the Lion’s Gate Portal, a symbolic time associated with manifestation, abundance, transformation and new beginnings.
But perhaps 8/8 doesn’t have to be only about asking for more.
Maybe it can also be about asking:
What am I ready to leave behind?
Because sometimes, before something new can enter our lives, we need to create space for it.
The Lion’s Gate is associated with the period when the Sun is in Leo and with the star Sirius, which has held spiritual significance across different traditions.
August 8 carries additional symbolism because of the number 8. In numerology, 8 is often connected with abundance, strength, balance and personal power. Turn it sideways and it becomes the infinity symbol — a reminder of cycles, endings and beginnings.
For many, this makes 8/8 a meaningful day to pause, reflect, set intentions and think about what they want to create next.
The idea of an energetic “portal” comes from modern spiritual traditions rather than established astronomy, but the day can still offer a beautiful reason to reconnect with yourself.
Manifestation often focuses on what we want to attract:
More love.
More abundance.
More opportunities.
More peace.
But there’s another question worth asking:
Is there space in my life for what I’m asking for?
We can ask for peace while saying yes to everything.
We can ask for new love while holding tightly to an old relationship.
We can ask for a new beginning while still believing we need permission to change.
Sometimes the intention isn't simply:
“I want something new.”
It is:
“I'm ready to release what no longer belongs in the life I'm creating.”
On August 8, find a few quiet minutes for yourself.
Take a slow breath and write down two questions:
What am I ready to release?
What am I ready to make space for?
Maybe you're releasing comparison and choosing trust. Maybe you're releasing constant striving and inviting more rest. Maybe you're simply letting go of the belief that you need to know exactly where life is taking you.
Journal, meditate, sit in silence or use sound as part of your practice. There is no perfect 8/8 ritual.
The intention is simply to become a little more conscious of what you're carrying and where you're going.
The Lion’s Gate is often spoken about as a time to call things in.
But perhaps this year, begin by putting something down.
An expectation. An old story. A fear. A version of yourself you've already outgrown.
Because sometimes a new chapter doesn't begin when we finally know what comes next.
It begins when we stop carrying what belonged to the last one.
Make space. Something new needs somewhere to arrive.
